Temple Newsam House A magnificent example of a Tudor/Jacobean House now in the process of opening its doors once again after more than two years of major refurbishments. Contains fine furniture, works of art , Leeds Ware Pottery and other furnishings. Audio tours and guided tours by arrangement. The Estate Gardens The grounds and gardens at Temple Newsam are ideal for walking and picnicking. They are a spectacle in season. The Home Farm The old farm buildings house various displays of farm machinery and a museum. Whilst outside are the rare breeds of cattle. Children's favourites Josh and Goldie can be seen along with Goats, Pigs, Sheep, Geese and Poultry. There will be a nominal entry charge which includes a bag of food for you to feed the animals. Ranger Activities Include projects with the volunteers. Fungi Forays, Pond Dipping, Kite Making, Tudor re-enactment in authentic dress including butter making. Also on site computer workshop and lecture room, for use of organised groups. Forestry Temple Newsam has hundreds of acres of beautiful ancient woodland to explore. Tree Wardens Forums and guided walks are available. Click on "Forestry"on the links page. Concerts and Drama Local Drama groups perform in the amphitheatre area at various times of the year. Concerts include Breeze, Opera and Party in the Park. Click on"Events" for further details. Dog Training Puppy classes to advance obedience, pet dog classes and working trials. Golf Temple Newsam Golf Club was formed in 1923. The Club is private but plays its golf on the municipal course run by Leeds City Council, who also cater for Pay & Play enthusiasts. During its history the Club has produced players who have gone on to represent the Leeds & District Union of Golf Clubs, the Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs and also England. The courses at Temple Newsam are moderately difficult and a good test for golfers at all levels. The Lord Irwin course is 6407 yards and the Lady Dorothy is 6261 yards. The Club has an active Rabbits section as well as a Ladies section. Membership is available for all categories at reasonable rates. The Clubhouse has snooker facilities for social members, a private lounge for hire and catering facilities for all occasions.
