THE FRIENDS OF TEMPLE NEWSAM PARKWho are we?The group was formed in 1999, and originally members came from the neighbouring districts of Halton, Colton, Whitkirk and Austhorpe. We came to prominence when the Leeds Pop Music Festival was held in the Park and three-day camping was allowed in various locations within the Park. The Pop Music Festival eventually found a new home at Bramham Park, near Wetherby, and the Friends of Temple Newsam Park are now able to move forward and concentrate our efforts on the original aims and more positive actions of a Friends group. We have a sizeable membership coming from across the City of Leeds and beyond. Our Aims To work for the enhancement, maintenance, protection and appropriate use of Temple Newsam Park. To foster in the Community a pride in, and a commitment to, Temple Newsam Park, and where necessary to communicate public opinion to the Local Authority . What do we do ? We hold regular meetings with the Park Management and Staff to discuss matters concerning the Park. We arrange talks and social activities. We act as a channel for members to express opinions and concerns about the Park. We facilitate teams of volunteers who help in the Park in practical ways. We communicate with Leeds City Council and other Bodies, if and when necessary. We produce three newsletters each year. We organise guided walks through the Estate with experts on different subjects. We apply for grants and sponsorship for projects on the Estate. We hold group membership of the Leeds Civic trust and the Leeds Tree Wardens.
